Olena Kharchenko (Osipenko village, Berdyansk district, Zaporizhzha region). Formerly a secondary school teacher, Kharchenko studied painting on her own, attending master classes and exhibitions, communicating with master petrykivka painters in Berdyansk, Zaporozhye, Petrykivtsi. Olena is the author of the teaching aid “Art of the Petrikivka painting”. Her inspiration is drawn from master painters Pelahia Hlushchenko, Vasyl Sokolenko, Tamara Kudish, Valentina Karpets, Halyna Nazarenko.
Petrykivka art originated from an ancient decorative painting tradition in central Ukraine, where it began as painting on interior and exterior adobe whitewashed walls, ceiling beams, and hearths, as well as decorative painting on furniture, boxes, and wooden kitchenware.
