In keeping with what has become an annual springtime tradition, the Museum is once again presenting an exhibition of pysanky – the colorful, intricate, and unique Ukrainian Easter eggs known around the world for their beauty and originality.

This year's exhibition, entitled Pysanka: Vessel of Life, is divided into three segments. In the first, pysanky are grouped by their region of origin. In order to demonstrate the similarity between the motifs used in creating pysanky and the motifs used in embroidery, each regional grouping is accompanied by a selection of embroidered shirts from that region. Both the embroidered shirts and the pysanky are from the Museum's own folk art collection; many of the pysanky are the work of acclaimed artist Sofika Zielyk.

In the second part of the exhibition, the eggs are arranged according to the motifs used in their design. These pysanky are also part of the Museum's collection.

The third segment of the exhibition pays homage to the early scholars and collectors who were instrumental in spearheading the research, preservation, and popularization of this unique art form. All these pysanky, grouped according to the individuals or institutions who first collected them, are the work of the researcher and pysanka artist Tanya Osadca, whose childhood memories of her mother and grandmother making pysanky eventually developed into a desire to both study and practice this art form.

Pysanka: Vessel of Life was organized by Lubow Wolynetz, the Museum's curator of folk art. The exhibition includes more than 600 pysanky.
