NYPPA: 2008 Year in Pictures

For the first time, The Ukrainian Museum is pleased to host Year in Pictures, an exhibition organized each year by the New York Press Photographers Association (NYPPA) to spotlight the winning images from its annual contest. This year's exhibition features photographs taken during 2008, a historic year for both the nation and New York; much of that history is caught in the winning photographs, which were selected from more than 2,000 entries by a three-member panel of judges from across the country.

NYPPA is the oldest press association in the United States. Dating back to 1913, it serves working photographers as both a professional and a social organization. NYPPA members work for news organizations in print and electronic media based within a 75-mile radius of Manhattan. The organization has more than 375 active members.

2008 Year in Pictures is supported by a grant from Con Edison. The exhibition opens Wednesday, September 30, and continues through Sunday, November 8. A catalog of the winning images will be available in the Museum gift shop for $20.

About the Museum
The Ukrainian Museum was founded in 1976 by the Ukrainian National Women's League of America as a showcase for Ukrainian culture. Over the past 32 years, the Museum has amassed extensive collections of folk art, fine art, and archival material. It mounts several exhibitions annually; publishes accompanying bilingual catalogues; organizes courses, workshops, and other educational programs; and hosts a variety of public events. In April 2005 the Museum moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility in New York's East Village, funded entirely by the Ukrainian American community.
